The McDowell County Board of Realtors held its monthly meeting this February, bringing together local real estate professionals for key updates, discussions, and industry insights. Here’s a recap of the important topics covered:

Hurricane Helene Relief Efforts Update
Adrienne Jones, Deputy Director of EMS for McDowell County was back with updates since last month’s meeting, returned to share new developments on Hurricane Helene relief efforts:
FEMA Individual Assistance – The deadline to apply has been extended to March 8th.
Debris Cleanup – Right-of-way (ROW) cleanup is ongoing.
Gated communities must still process hold harmless forms to qualify for private property cleanup.
Regular private roads now qualify as standard ROW cleanup, streamlining the process.
Streams and Waterways – Cleanup is expected to begin this week.
Lake James – Unfortunately, not included in debris cleanup as it remains Duke Energy’s private property.
