McDowell County Board of Realtors Meeting Recap – January 7, 2025

Our first McDowell County Board of Realtors meeting of the year took place on January 7, 2025. Attendance was lighter than we had hoped, but as the new year unfolds and the weather improves, we hope to see more of your smiling faces in the coming months. Let’s work together to make 2025 a year of increased participation and engagement!

Lockbox Fundraising Update

We are currently $1,075 away from reaching our lockbox fundraising goal. These lockboxes are a crucial resource, as they allow EMS teams to access homes more easily during emergencies. Your contributions can help ensure that those in need receive timely assistance. Donations can be given to Megan or Cecilia. Please consider supporting this meaningful cause.

Christmas Contributions

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in our Christmas fundraising efforts. In lieu of gifts, we donated funds to the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), which were used to provide 175 Christmas meals. What a wonderful way to give back to our community during the holiday season!

RPAC Donations

RPAC is kicking off for the year, so please remember to make your donations as soon as possible. Let’s get this important task checked off early!

Board Dues Reminder

There are delinquent board dues, and fines are now being charged. Megan will be emailing a list of overdue accounts as a reminder. Please ensure your dues are paid promptly to avoid additional penalties.

Continuing Education on February 5

Mark your calendars! On February 5, we will be hosting Continuing Education (CE) sessions. You can log in to Navica to sign up for either BICUP or GENUP. The cost is $60 per session. Don’t miss this opportunity to stay current with your education requirements.

Guest Speaker: Adrienne Jones

Adrienne Jones, Deputy Director of EMS for McDowell County, was our guest speaker and provided valuable insights into ongoing recovery and assistance efforts in our post-Hurricane Helene era. Some key updates:

  1. Debris Cleanup

    • FEMA, in partnership with the Army Corps of Engineers, has been assisting with debris cleanup in McDowell County.

      • Private property pickup is available if you cannot bring debris to the right of way (ROW). This requires a permission form, which can be accessed at www.mcdowellgov.com/debris.

  2. Hazard Mitigation Grants

  3. Private Roads and Bridges

    • Governor Stein has signed an executive order to address funding for private road and bridge repair/replacement. Once details are finalized, an office will be established in McDowell County for applications.

  4. Housing Assistance

    • Hotel vouchers remain available for those in need. Transition housing efforts are ongoing, with private donors and nonprofits helping secure FEMA trailers or campers. If you know someone struggling with housing, contact Adrienne for assistance.
